The Bergvill F/X LED Smart Ballast is a circuit that allows for problem-free use of LED brake bulbs in Porsche cars fitted with a Cruise Control unit.
LED bulbs do not have the same low resistance as incandescent bulbs, and this is detected by the cruise control unit as a fault.
The Smart Ballast will simulate the normal incandescent bulb current load, but without wasting energy or the need for bulky or very hot ballast resistors. Cars without Cruise Control does not need this circuit.
We get these common questions:
The Smart Ballast is only needed if the car has cruise control and when you are using LED bulbs only as brake lights, and no normal incandescent bulbs. This means LED bulbs in the normal rear/brake lights, and third brake light, or LED bulbs in the normal rear/brake lights, and no third brake light is fitted.
Please note the following:
The Smart Ballast is only tested in conjunction with our 1157 red LED brake light bulbs. Other makes of LED bulbs may introduce a different total load resistance on the brake light circuit. This circuit will only work for solving issues using LED brake lights in Porsche cars fitted with a cruise control. It will not work for solving any issues when using LED bulbs in turn signals or any other purpose.
The Smart Ballast is tested in Porsche models 928, 964, 993 and 996 only in conjunction with our 1157 red LED bulbs. These LED bulbs have an inbuilt resistor that also contributes to the total load on the brake light circuit. Using other brands may prevent that the Smart Ballast works as intended.
The Smart Ballast is also used by our customers with great success in other types of vehicles such as BMW, Mazda and Victory motorcycles. However, we do not guarantee or can help in other use than the above mentioned main purpose for the device.
